Complex Leisure Travel Online: Focus
on Dynamic Packaging Technology
by
Norman L. Rose

|
The
Internet has permanently altered the way
vacation packages are created and
marketed. Consumers can now purchase
packages from a variety of sites including
online agencies, hoteliers and airlines.
The choices and types of options have
never been so broad. Within the dramatic
surge of Internet travel, package sales
have emerged as a new growth category. And
within the broad category of vacation
packages a single technology has surfaced
as the “killer app” for the leisure
travel industry: dynamic packaging.
But what exactly is dynamic packaging?
To understand the subject completely,
Travel Tech Consulting in conjunction with
PhoCusWright conducted in-depth interviews
with three types of companies: traditional
tour operator software vendors, newer
Internet-based leisure travel software
platforms and the leading online travel
agencies. From these interviews, a clear
picture emerged of the evolving underlying
technology platform that is being
developed for dynamic packaging.
Selling Complex Leisure Travel Online:
Focus on Dynamic Packaging looks in depth
at the technology components needed for
true dynamic packaging and what new
technologies are coming down the pike to
help further enhance the online vacation
planning experience.
